Croque Monsieur

Ingredients

  • 20 gram butter softened
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 125 milli liter milk
  • 40 gram Gruyere or swiss cheese coarsely grated
  • 40 gram cheddar coarsely grated
  • 4 slices bread buttered
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 150 gram ham shaved

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan.
  2. Add flour and cook until slightly grainy.
  3. Remove from heat and add milk.
  4. Return to heat and cook stirring until sauce boils and thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in half of both cheese until melted and mixture combined.
  6. Put the 4 slices of the bread under the grill until lightly toasted.
  7. Spread half the bread toasted side up with the cheese sauce. Top with ham, and remaining cheese.
  8. Place rest of the bread on top with toasted side down.
  9. Cook sandwich on grill on both sides.
